Don't let Stan catch you!
Stan the T. rex is 65-70 million years old. He was excavated by the Black Hills Institute in 1992, after its discovery by Stan Sacrison. The fossil remains were found near Buffalo (South
Dakota) in the USA. Before removal of the fossils, each one was recorded then covered with foil and encased in sack-cloth and plaster. All excavated material was then transported to the lab for specialised cleaning and preparation. Very accurate copies of the bones were made so that it could be mounted in a running position we see on the gallery.
