These are round and flat insects of a rich reddish-brown colour which could be found in any premises where low hygienic standards prevail. The name ‘Bug’ is thought to derive from the Middle English word ‘bugge’, meaning a ‘spirit’ or ‘ghost’. Should one awake in the morning with small, red itching welts and swellings, these marks were mistakenly attributed to a malevolent spirit called bugge; yet the real culprit was in fact the Bed Bug.si.
