Rabbit skull and lower jaw

Rabbit skull_9887

The skull protects the delicate brain, and carries major sensory organs, including the eyes, nose and ears. The skull is made up of a number of separate bones, which follow the same pattern in all vertebrates (animals with backbones). Animals can usually be identified to species from their skull alone. Teeth patterns are particularly helpful in mammals, and beak shape helps to identify birds to species.
