Rabbit femur (thigh bone)

femur_9890

The femur, or thigh bone, is one of the largest bones in the body. It has a well-devleoped ball at the ‘top end’ which fits into the hip socket on the pelvis. The knee joint at the lower end is a hinge joint, allowing the lower leg to move back and forth but not side to side. The femur is hollow, like the humerus, and is filled with bone marrow.
