Plaster skull

A face from the past

Plaster cast of skull 02

Mummy number ‘1770’ was unwrapped and autopsied by Professor Rosalie David in 1975 in order to study the diseases which affected Ancient Egyptians. The mummy was that of a 13 or 14 year old girl who appears to have had her legs amputated shortly before or after her death. The team also found evidence of Guinea Worm infection. Prof. Richard Neave produced a forensic facial reconstruction, starting with a plaster reconstruction of the skull from the remaining fragments of bone.
