Neolithic Flint axehead

Hard to be believe this is made out of flint!

Neolithic flint axehead_9772

This stone object has to have been made deliberately. It is a really nice ground and polished Neolithic flint axehead from about 3000 BC. People in prehistoric Britain used axes with stone blades to cut down trees. This axehead was made by first creating a rough-out by striking stone such as flint and then grinding and polishing the surface until it was very smooth. It was mounted in a wooden handle by tying or binding the axehead with strips of leather or withies.
