Pieces of Nottinghamshire stoneware

Plain but serviceable

IMG_9813

During the 19th century Nottinghamshire was a major centre for the production for utilitarian pottery for use in industry and at home. It was fired at high temperature to make it as hard as stone. It has a rich brown glaze from the use of manganese (?) and is often simply decorated with simple lines of impressed decoration.
